This day's bad weather reached its maximum level during this match. It was raining cats and dogs.
England's team got better along with this right from the start.
Although Germany had a nice effort right in the beginning by Fabian Zilg, who could not realise a shot from the right wing,
England managed more and more to keep Germany in their own half. Germany's goal keeper Steffen König
had quite a lot opportunities to demonstrate his talents. But after 10 minutes of play he had no chance, when after
a nice combination and a hard shot into the cirle Joseph Finding deflected the ball into the goal.
The lead made England even more confident and the focus was now clearly on the German kepper. He saved many brilliant
chances and penalty corners. England's pressure did not even ease when England's goal keeper Andrew Thomas had to be
replaced after a laceration on his chin.
Only seldom the German boys were showing their playing ability. For instance in the 34th minute when a nice ball relay brought
the first penalty corner for Germany. Thomas Millington - as good as his predecessor - saved it.
The match did not change starting the second halftime. The more the rain was swelling the more England was dominating the game.
It was clearly a question of time at which England will hit their next goal. After a fancy dribbling Mard Edwards passed onto Edward Kelleher
who had no difficulties to hit the open German goal (41st minute).
Rain was still increasing and puddles on the pitch were getting larger. After 56 minutes of play the umpires decided to interrupt the match for 10 minutes.
Many of the organizor's youthful helpers were getting the water off the pitch with brooms. At the same time weather-god had compassion and stopped
further "watering of the pitch" so the game could continue.
The break had a good influence on the German boys. Now England was pressed into their own half and it was now the English keeper Thomas Millington
to show his talents. Especially two shots were saved by him in a really excellent way. Germany's player Robin Walther suceeded finally and marked
the goal which left the side only one down (67th minute).
But finally the match ended with a 2-1 lead for England, who in all was the better team.
