The magic is in the mix
The German national trainer Ulrich Forstner is working on his team for the 2008 European Championships and 2009 World Championships. Naturally, in the tournament premier played on ‘home’ ground in Monchengladbach he won’t be able to exclusively rely on those talents who will still be entitled to play in the U21 in 2009. So the magic is in the mix. A few juniors, such as Max Müller and Tobias Hauke still belong in Markus Weise’s extended European Championship squad. Forstner would certainly not begrudge them the move to Manchester, but can certainly also use them in Gladbach. The bar has definitely been raised for the host nation since they were European runners-up in 2006. From the trainer’s point of view, the sixth place at the 2005 World Championships was far below expectation. The German team is still trying for a medal. Let’s see if they manage it against the strong competition in the Hockey Park.
