Bronze Medal for Spain
The final day was opened by the U 16 teams of ESP and ENG, who playes already yesterday a exiting match, won by ESP 3:2. ENG played a defensive style deep in the own half waiting for the ESP attacks. ESP with more ball possesion, but without good chances. Only Bernardo Guerrero with a shot on the goal, but no problems for the ENG keeper David Jones. After 10 Minutes the first english couter-attack, played by the fast moving Martin Scanlon, ended in the first two penalty corners, which were played witout sucess. Two more chances for ENG in the 12th and 13th minute, as Christopher Griffiths backhand shot was saved by ESP keeper Zumalacarregui. Again Griffiths near to the lead, as his shot hit the crossbar. The a little surprising the first goal of the match for ESP. Yavier Tost deflects the ball in to empty goal after after a solo by Guerrero on the left side. The the most conspicuous ESP player, Marc Garcia-Cicote, near to the second goal after a fine sole, but without luck.
Both teams with the same tactical play in the second half. Balanced play withou circle scenes. Then William Spain with a solo from the middle line into the ESP circle, scoring the draw with a fine backhand shot. ESP again with ball possesion, ENG waiting for couter attacks. ESP Joan Prat fails in the 57th minute, the following couter attack is succesful. Timothy Craven scores for ENG. 2:1 lead. Then perhaps the decisive scene, as Martin Scanlon gets the yellow card for a foul. ENG now under pressure and Joan Pratr scores for ESP. England defens held the draw, but one minute before game-end a penalty corner for ESP. Juan Romeu with very strong flick draw and no chance for the english keeper. ESP wins a exciting game and reaches the 3rd place in the U16 tournament.
