Netherlands - Belgium Sunday, 12.08.2007 - 15:30 in Mönchengladbach The Netherlands are tournament winners The Netherlands and Belgium were the two DKV Junior Trophy finalists. The Dutch were the clear favourites before the game and worthy winners of the tournament. Their 7:1 victory was never in danger and the high score was justified. However Belgium are to be congratulated on their competitive spirit, which was rewarded with a face-saving goal. But their attempts to make the game more open were fruitless against the clear-headed style of play from the Dutch team. The tournament ended with a splendid game and lots of goals.
Jan-Willem Buissant (NED) As expected, Belgium started cautiously and gave the Netherlands most of the possession. It was just a matter of time before the Dutch took the lead. It happened in the 15th minute, when Campbell pushed through very well on the right and Jonker scored the well-earned goal. Belgium them came into the game more but were still hardly able to get out of their own half. The Netherlands were still the superior team and shortly before half time Caspers scored for 2:0 with a sharply-angled, backhand shot.
Jan-Willem Buissant (NED) The Netherlands then continued as they’d begun. They played very impressively seeking the final decision. Thanks to a counterattack in the 40th minute, for the first time Belgium created a dangerous situation in front of the Dutch goal, but weren’t able to find the target. Belgium continued to play aggressively and attacked over the 25 yard line, but the Netherlands were skilfully able to counter and in the 44th minute it was Caspers who, with his second goal, was able to carry through one of these counterattacks. Just two minutes later Caspers did the preparations and passed to Hertzberger, who only had to let the ball ricochet into the goal. The score of 5:0 was achieved after a short corner, when Buissant converted the follow through. And the Dutch hunger for goals was not yet satisfied. Bakker joined the list of goal scorers in the 57th minute. But then seven minutes before the end, Belgium was able to score their face-saver. Von Laddyn deflected a fast-moving pass unstoppably into the Dutch goal. Then Caspers again scored so that the final score was 7:1.
Floris Vanderlinden (BEL)
The Dutch coach Michel van den Heuvel was more than satisfied with his team’s performance. Everything worked perfectly, they were never in difficulty and could even have increased their lead further in the second half. In his opinion, it was very important to use every game of this tournament to prepare his team for the world championships, which they had done.
Billy Bakker (NED) just scored
